Bead Soup is Served!

In February I received an wonderful package from my bead soup partner Leslie Scholz that looked like this:

And inside that tiny little pink packet was this:

And from those delightful wonders I made the following creations!

An "Accomplishment" Jar from the beautiful pink pressed glass button, including upcycled sari fabric strips, assorted beads and embellishments, yarn-wrapped wire, an old peacock earring, and a handmade clay leaf that says "Proud as a Peacock."  I used a 1-quart Mason Jar, and used a creamy thick gesso to coat the inside.  Inside the jar I'll write down my accomplishments and things I'm proud of throughout the year.  Here's a closeup:

And next I wanted to create a set of earrings from the cool lavender/pinkish tin flowers.....

....so I could wear them with the exquisite Venetian glass frit beads that I turned into a very simple necklace with sterling chain.

And with the small but fabulous sterling purse charm I made this!  Meet "Angel" - an Heavenly creature made from found objects and fused glass arms and legs that I made in my kiln.

Check out the purse - I absolutely HAD to make something special with it and am thrilled to add this new little doll to my growing collection of found-object art pieces.

Having Leslie as my Bead Soup Partner this year has been a wonderful experience, and I'm excited to see what she makes with the package I sent her which included a bead from a favorite lampwork artist, Anastasia; a couple of my own lampworked beads and a brass coin and silk ribbon.

Be sure to check out her blog here as well as the rest of the Bead Soup participants here.  I advise you grab a big cup of coffee/tea or cold/hot beverage and enjoy the journey as you check out the eye candy of nearly 150 bead artists from all over the world as they show off their Bead Soup creations!!

I'm in the 20/20 Show!!

Works in Progress for my upcoming show at Kennedy Gallery
I'm doing the happy dance today because I just got notified that my application was accepted for Kennedy Gallery's upcoming "20/20" show 🤗🤗🤗   I'll be painting a total of 25 paintings and my theme is "Indigo Blooms" based on the mid-century style of my ongoing "Vessels" series.

I'm really excited to be participating in this very popular event in the Sacramento art scene.  The show has been happening for nearly 20 years, and originally began at the 20th Street Gallery owned by Jim and Joanie Ferry.  After the gallery closed, Michael Kennedy of The Kennedy Gallery has kept it going and artists from all over California vie to be selected.

The curator will be displaying 20 works from each of the 20 participating artists, and we will each have 5 extra works for replacements as the displayed ones are sold.  Each piece is 8" x 8" and there will be all types of mediums being used (I'll be painting with acrylics, charcoal and gesso on canvas).

The show opens May 13th at The Kennedy Gallery located at 1931 L Street in Sacramento, CA and will continue until June 6th.  I'll post more photos as I complete the paintings.
